Colony of Avalon

The Colony of Avalon Foundation is a registered charity with a mission to research, preserve, present and promote the 17th century history of Ferryland, NL. Established in 1621 by Sir George Calvert, the Colony of Avalon is widely recognized as the best preserved early English colonial site in North America. To date, archaeology at the Colony has unearthed Calvert’s mansion house, the remains of a bakery/brew house, cobblestone street, warehouse, forge, well, sea wall, a sea-flushed privy and more than two million artifacts.
Colony of Avalon offers tours in season which include entrance to our museum, conservation lab, archaeological site, and 17th century kitchen.
